I am Director of Digital Education and a Senior Teaching Fellow at Lancaster University Management School. Based in the Digital Education Unit, I am responsible for the strategic direction of the digital learning and teaching provision across the school, whilst also working to influence digital education practice and policy at University level.
My research interests meet at the intersection of critical theory, digital pedagogies, and the philosophy of technology. I work on the impact of digital technology in (higher) education, with a focus on the recent turn to (or away from) what has been referred to as 'the datafication of education', and the combined question of grammatisation and the role of archival technology. I am also interested in the possibilities of design for digital learning and teaching, the notion of ‘networked’ learning, and the role, or deployment of critical theory in research on digital education.
