Mark Murphy , University of Glasgow, UK

Mark Murphy is a Reader in Education and Public Policy at the University of Glasgow. He previously worked as an academic at King’s College, London, University of Chester, University of Stirling, National University of Ireland, Maynooth, University College Dublin and Northern Illinois University. Mark is an active researcher in the fields of education and public policy. His research interests include educational sociology, critical theory, accountability in higher education, and public sector reform.

Cristina Costa , University of the West of England, UK

Cristina Costa is Associate Professor Digital Education and Society in the Department of Education and Childhood. Her research focuses on the intersection of education and the participatory web through a sociological lens, especially Pierre Bourdieu’s key concepts. She is also interested in broader issues regarding the participatory web in the context of a changing society. Cristina has a research record that links social theory to emerging academic areas such as Technology Enhanced Learning in an attempt to bridge existing gap between theory and practice. This has resulted in researching areas as diverse as Curriculum Innovation, Digital Scholarship, Literacies and e-Health. In 2013 she completed her PhD on the participatory web in the context of academic research: landscapes of change and conflicts. She is a co-editor of the Social Theory Applied blog/website www.socialtheoryapplied.com. She has been an external examiner (Ph.D and Master's Vivas for the Open University of Lisbon and Universidad Europea in Madrid).

Rille Raaper , University of Durham

Rille is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education where her research interests lie in the sociology of higher education. She is particularly interested in neoliberalisation of university policies and practices, power relations in academia, student identity as consumers, and student politics in higher education. Rille explores these themes by drawing on critical theory and critical discourse analysis. Her most recent research project traces consumerist positioning of students in England and the ways in which it informs student politics. Rille convenes the UG module Higher Education: Issues of Exclusion and Inclusion, and she teaches on the MA modules Critical Perspectives in Education and Curriculum Analysis.
